Where to Read My Newer Writings

John Vandivier

Many readers still discover my work through AfterEcon, so I wanted to write a quick update explaining where my newer writing now lives.

I've moved my writing into more monetizable locations where content is more tightly associated to distinct themes:

  1. Patreon as my author's community
  2. Three Substacks with content more tightly focused around particular themes
  3. Ladderly.io/blog contains much of my writing on tech career best practices

I also create lots of social media content beyond text content. See my social media links here.

Patreon — Books, Fiction, and Long-Form Creative Work

Patreon is where I share my longer-form creative projects, including books, developmental drafts, selected chapters, author notes, behind-the-scenes writing material, and other experimental work.

This includes both fiction and nonfiction projects, along with opportunities for readers to follow the creative process while works are still evolving.

It’s also the best place to directly support my work as a writer.

Substack — Essays, Analysis, and Fiction

I currently publish across three separate Substacks, each focused on a different category of writing.

Optimality

Optimality

Writing about living optimally across topics like economics, investing, finance, philosophy, policy, systems thinking, and long-term decision-making.

Current Tech

Current Tech

Writing focused on software engineering careers, the tech industry, hiring, interviewing, and professional growth.

Simulation Theory RPG

Simulation Theory RPG

Fictional short stories, speculative worlds, and narrative experiments.

Social Media — Continuous Notes and Experiments

Social media is where I post shorter thoughts, videos, reading notes, experiments, commentary, and ideas that may later evolve into larger essays or books.

If you prefer frequent smaller updates instead of traditional articles, that’s probably the best place to follow along.

Ladderly — Software Engineering Career Development

Ladderly Blog

Ladderly is where I publish practical writing related to software engineering careers, interviewing, job search strategy, and professional development in tech.

This content is generally more tactical and implementation-focused than my broader essays elsewhere.

Thanks to everyone who has continued reading my work over the years. AfterEcon remains an important part of my writing history, and I appreciate everyone who still finds their way here.
